Rock Hard extends win streak at Caulfield

Trainer Byron Cozamanis says its hard to turn out a horse in winning form.

Rock Hard stretched his unbeaten winning sequence to three with victory in Saturday’s Ladbrokes Back Yourself Plate (1100m) at Caulfield.

Now the Caulfield-based horseman is a quandary whether to send the two-year-old for a spell or press on for another start.

“It’s a bit hard to turn them out when winning but I think there’s quite a bit still to come from him,” Cozamanis said.

“I’ll speak to the owners over the next couple of days to see what they want, but I’ll be recommending he goes for a break.

“He’s a tough colt, he never leaves an oat, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“It’s a good problem to have.”

Ridden by apprentice Chris Caserta, Rock Hard was backed from $2.80 to run the $2.35 favourite in beating That Song ($4.40) by two lengths with Celestial King ($6) a head away third.

Cozamanis said Rock Hard had proven difficult at the barriers and a ban was placed on him following his win at Bendigo last month.

“We had to trial him here on Tuesday morning with a stallion chain, so luckily he passed,” Cozamanis said.

Rock Hard will be entered for the Caulfield Guineas but Cozamanis said the main target for the rising three-year-old will be the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast in January.
