Richmond Tigers vs Sydney Swans Round 3 match preview

The undefeated Sydney Swans are flying high and will be confident of defeating Richmond at the MCG in AFL action on Easter Sunday.

It was another disappointing loss for the Tigers on Sunday as they fell by 30 points to Port Adelaide. After leading by 11 points at half-time, the Tigers conceded 13 second-half goals as their depleted backline struggled against the quality of the Power forward line.

Thee injury concerns don’t look much better for the Tigers as defensive pair Nathan Broad and Tylar Young are unlikely to return. Jacob Hopper and James Trezise have also been ruled out for at least month. In better news, Maurice Rioli is expected to return after he was a late withdrawal.

The Swans were again impressive in a high-scoring clash with Essendon on Saturday, as they fought off a late charge to run out 30-point winners. Leading at every break, the Swans were excellent in transition, making the most of the home conditions to kick a season-high 131 points.

Harry Cunningham will miss due to the concussion protocol after the physical clash against the Bombers, opening the door for the versatile Robbie Fox to return from a minor issue. Off-season recruit Taylor Adams is also in the mix to play his first game for the Swans, but given his injury history, don’t be surprised if he is given another week off.

A key part of the Swans stong start to the season, Isaac Heeney, has embraced his role change into the midfield. Averaging 29 disposals per game, Heeney has spent more time in the middle than any other Swan. With the NSW product expected to continue his excellent run of form, back Heeney to collect 30 or more disposals at $3 with bet365.

Coming off a four goal-haul against Essendon, Tom Papley remains the Swans most dangerous forward. He kicked six in a match against Richmond last season, and he averages more goals against the Tigers than any other side. Without an obvious matchup in defence, expect Papley to become a headache for the Tigers defence, kicking three or more goals at $3.10 with top online bookmakers.

Tigers vs Swans prediction

After a hot start to the season, it is hard to look past the Swans as they have a chance to jump to the top of the AFL ladder. While teams have found a way to keep the Swans tall forwards quiet, the Tigers need to ensure that they stop the goal kicking midfielders, who have done plenty of damage. As heavy favourites, the Swans offer little in the head-to-head market, so add the handicap of -21.5 for extra value at $1.90 with AFL Bookmakers.
