Revenire burst gives Godolphin 200th win

The giant Godolphin operation has brought up its 200th winner for the season and its first at Ipswich, with Revenire scoring a brave win.

Godolphin’s interim trainer, Darren Beadman, was too ill to see Impending win last week’s Group One Stradbroke Handicap but he was on hand for Revenire’s ($3.90) strong burst to beat Acceptile ($9) by 1-1/2 lengths in the Bundamba Plate (1100m) on Saturday.

Initialize came third in the race for two-year-olds.

Beadman took over as interim trainer with Godolphin when John O’Shea resigned in early May and he will hand the reins to James Cummings on July 8.

He will go out with his head held high after leading in 28 winners in the royal blue to date.

Beadman said Revenire had been a work in progress and the decision to bring him north was made with the new season in mind.

“I felt as a three-year-old he might be here for the winter carnival next year so it was a bit of an experiment to have him here,” Beadman said.

Beandman could clearly remember the last time he was at Ipswich.

“I was in a big fall in the Ipswich Cup when just about the whole field fell,” he said, referring to the race in 2000 in which eight horses crashed.

“As far as I know Godolphin has never had a winner at Ipswich. But that was our 200th win as a team for the season.”
