The Melbourne Renegades host Sydney Thunder at the Docklands in Melbourne in what should be an interesting and highly entertaining game . The Renegades are in 5th position after their win on Thursday against Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder now in 3rd position on the BBL ladder. Momentum lies with the Renegades because they’ve picked themselves off the floor and can now break into the top 4 if they win here.

Shaun Marsh might be one of the most criticised cricketers in Australia but he did the job yet again with 57 off 35 balls on Thursday and his experience brings stability and calmness when chasing tricky targets. Aaron Finch has arms that belong on a lumberjack and he put them to good use once again with 37 off 28 balls so clearly the Melbourne Renegades have a pathway to score runs and on the bowling side they have been content to bank on containment rather than aiming to take wickets. Kane Richardson, Zahir Khan and Mohammed Nabi each took 2 wickets in their last game but most importantly not one bowler went for more than 30 runs in their spell. Do that in every game and you’ll be an excellent team.

Sydney Thunder are also in good form as they showed on Sunday by winning by 29 runs against the Adelaide Strikers and then they followed up with a 6 wicket win against the Scorchers on Thursday. They’re fortunate to have a classy batter in the shape of Matthew Gilkes who has scored 3 fifties so far this season and on Sunday he pounded 93 off 57 balls. The Renegades must have a think about how they’re going to stop him because he opens the innings and sets the tone for the rest of the team. There’s plenty of class down the order as well with Jason Sangha and Sam Billings proving that there is plenty of depth in Australian cricket.

Mohammed Hasnain is an exciting prospect from Hyderabad in Pakistan and he looks a bit too smart for some of the opposition batting line ups to be found in the BBL. Not many bowlers have bowled a triple wicket maiden in the BBL but it’ll be interesting to see if he can back it up. Gurinder Sandhu has been quietly bowling some tight spells without luck all season but he finally broke through with a devastating spell of 4 for 22 on Thursday. There’s plenty of other competent bowlers such as Daniel Sams, Chris Green and Jason Sangha.

Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Thunder betting tips

Top Sydney Thunder Run Scorer: Matthew Gilkes

Matthew Gilkes is having a great season with the bat and he’s one who has quietly been building his reputation this season. He hits with style and elegance and makes it look all so easy once he works his way past 20. He looks like a proper batter who observes the basics of the game and this is why he is proving to be so consistent. The Melbourne Renegades attack shouldn’t really worry him and he isn’t one of those batters who needs to hit a boundary early on in order to settle down.

To Take 2+ Wickets: Mohammed Hasnain

Mohammed Hasnain has shown already what he can do and because this is the Renegades I think he can do it again. He’s fast and he’s dangerous and not many batters like that. The smarter ones will look to score behind the wicket against him but when the ball is angled into the stumps from wide of the crease there is little that can be done. The fielders provide excellent support for their bowlers which is handy because when he hits the bat at his pace the ball flies fast off the bat.
