Renegades v Sixers BBL best bets & multi tips – December 30

The Big Bash League returns to Geelong as the Melbourne Renegades host their rematch with the Sydney Sixers at GMHBA Stadium.

These two sides met on Wednesday at the SCG where the Sixers were easy winners in the end as the Renegades faded in their run chase.

The Sixers were led strongly with the ball by Ben Dwarshuis who ripped through the Renegades taking four wickets for only 17 runs in his four overs. The Renegades will be looking for a strong response from New Zealand import Martin Guptill with captain Nic Maddinson and Shaun Marsh at the top of the batting order.

The Renegades started BBL 12 as one of the best sides in the competition and still sit at the top of the competition ladder with the Strikers, Scorchers and Sixers. A win here for the Renegades would make amends for the loss in Sydney on the BBL ladder, and given they are at home, the Renegades are great value to bounce back and beat the Sixers paying $2.

Martin Guptill failed in his Renegades debut at the SCG having only arrived in Australia a couple of days prior to game day. Guptill will have more time and training under his belt heading to Geelong and is one of the greatest T20 batsmen in the history of the format. Guptill is too classy a batter to miss out twice in a row and is more than capable of bouncing back to be the Renegades highest run scorer of the match paying $3.60.

Akeal Hosein has been the spearhead of the Renegades bowling attack this season, regularly opening the bowling and taking crucial wickets early to put the opposition under pressure. Hosein can also come back into the attack late in the innings to clean up the tail, just as he did against the Heat in his only match in Geelong. Look for a similar performance from Hosein as he bounces back against the Sixers and takes 3+ wickets with the ball paying $5.

Key matchup: Martin Guptill vs Ben Dwarshuis

The clash at the top of the order for these two players will be in the spotlight following Guptill’s debut for the Renegades. Dwarshuis set Guptill up beautiful to remove the international star early when he was caught behind the wicket. It was clear the boost that give to Dwarshuis who went on to be the player of the match for the Sixers. Guptill will almost certainly take that dismissal personally and pay particular attention to how he begins his innings against the Sixers. If Guptill gets off to a flyer, the Renegades should be very difficult to beat.
