Red Chase escapes injury in unusual mishap

Trainer Desleigh Forster will go back to the drawing board with the erratic Red Chase.

Trainer Desleigh Forster says Red Chase has suffered no ill effects after being eased out of the last race in unusual circumstances at Eagle Farm.

Red Chase was the favourite in the final race on Saturday but did a sharp turn to the outside fence at the 800m and jockey Mark Du Plessis had no choice but to ease him down.

Du Plessis later told a stewards inquiry Red Chase had caught him by surprise when he veered sharply to the left.

Forster said Red Chase had sometimes shown signs of being field-shy and racing without cover, he had wanted to hang.

“He is fine after the race and I will spell him,” Forster said.

Red Chase will need to trial before he is allowed to race again.

The incident marred what had otherwise been a good week for Forster who won with Desert Digby at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday and Aeecee Tong De on Saturday.

Desert Digby will make his return to city racing on Saturday at Eagle Farm.
