Premier League odds, free tips and value bets – Matchweek 10

THERE is a three-way tie at the top of the table as we head into round 10 of the 2016-17 English Premier League campaign.

Manchester City have the edge over Arsenal and Liverpool on goal difference, although that situation will change if they can’t arrest their recent form slump.

The midweek League Cup defeat to a similarly out-of-sorts Manchester United means Pep Guardiola’s men have not won any of their last six matches in all competitions.

Fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur also need a victory to keep touch with the front runners after back-to-back draws against West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth.

They still have a four-point gap on Everton, who have slipped to sixth after going winless in their last four league outings.

In fact, only two teams in the top 10 – Liverpool and Chelsea – tasted victory last week in a round that offered vital points for some potential relegation candidates.

It was Burnley who put away the Toffees to complete an impressive home double against Merseyside opposition, while Stoke City and West Ham United both made it two wins from two.

Middlesbrough and Swansea picked up points as well, but there was no such luck for Hull City or the still-winless Sunderland.

Here are the match-ups, top odds and value bet specials for the weekend ahead, with all markets courtesy of Sportsbet.com.au – one of Australia’s best Premier League betting sites.

Sunderland vs. Arsenal

12:30pm local (10:30pm AEDT) on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Stadium of Light

Anyone who has followed Sunderland’s travails in recent years will know it is a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ manager David Moyes gets the sack. The Black Cats are fixed firmly to the foot of the table with two points and a mere six goals – of which Jermain Defoe has scored four – from their nine games. Arsenal can count themselves lucky to have halved the points with Middlesbrough last week in a match that was most notable for the world-class goalkeeping efforts of Petr Cech and Victor Valdes at either end. The Gunners are only goal difference away from top spot, however, and the sheer weight of talent at their disposal should see them past a Sunderland side that has shown none of the resilience, organisation, or counterattacking threat Boro displayed.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leicester City

3pm local on Saturday, October 29, 2016 (1am AEDT Sunday) at White Hart Lane

Spurs were left frustrated by a very capable Bournemouth outfit in Dorset last time out. Erik Lamela probably should have seen red after the ref went easy on what looked a clear second booking, but Moussa Sissoko will certainly cop a suspension for his crude elbow on Cherries midfielder Harry Arter. There was no Harry Kane or Toby Alderweireld for that match, and it looks like that will be the case again when the champions come to visit. Claudio Ranieri’s bold decision to drop Jamie Vardy paid dividends for Leicester as Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki starred in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. The Foxes won on their last trip to the Lane – a crucial 1-0 result that lifted both morale and momentum during what was a brutal January Premier League schedule.

Crystal Palace vs. Liverpool

5:30pm local on Saturday, October 29, 2016 (3:30am AEDT Sunday) at Selhurst Park

It took a late, late Christian Benteke penalty to end Liverpool’s five-match winless run against Palace in the EPL when these two last met. Now the Belgian striker will look to repay his new employers when he faces the Reds for the first time since leaving Anfield in the English summer. But the omens aren’t great for Alan Pardew’s Eagles, who are without a win in three and were well beaten by Leicester last weekend. Liverpool, despite their well-documented issues when defending set pieces, are in sumptuous form, and the 2-1 scoreline against West Brom says nothing of their all-round dominance and quality of play. Daniel Sturridge bagged a brace in the midweek cup win over Spurs, but he should have scored at least four and could be benched again for the journey to London.

Southampton vs. Chelsea

4pm local on Sunday, October 30, 2016 (3am AEDT Monday) at St. Mary’s

After a slow start to Premier League 2016-17, Southampton have rocketed up to eighth in the table with three wins and two draws in their last five games. They outplayed Man City at Eastlands last weekend and would have won it with a fraction more composure in the final third. As for Chelsea, we will say again what we said going into week nine: it’s impossible to gauge their true form right now. Man United were diabolical, so a 4-0 result doesn’t say a hell of a lot. It is clear, however, that the Blues are becoming much more comfortable in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system, and the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and surprise packet Victor Moses could cause headaches for a Saints side still missing a few key men at the back.
