Peidra on Guineas path after Sandown win

Lindsay Park will set Peidra on a Caulfield Guineas path after his win at Sandown.

Lindsay Park has spring aspirations with Peidra after the gelding scored a decisive victory at Sandown to remain unbeaten after two starts.

After winning at Sale last month, Peidra added Sunday’s Labrokes Odds Boost Handicap (1200m) to his record.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes said the stable would now set the three-year-old on a path towards the Group One Caulfield Guineas after his two-length victory from Bendigo debut winner Knock Knock.

Immaturity and a gelding operation delayed Peidra’s debut but Hayes said the stable was now starting to see the benefits.

“He had to be gelded early as he was getting too heavy across the shoulder and was proving a real handful in the stable,” Hayes said.

“He needed the time and I think we’re getting those rewards now.”

Hayes said a step up to Saturday grade would be next on the agenda for Peidra and if he showed he was up to that company he would be aimed towards the Caulfield Guineas in October.

“We’ll see how he pulls up but I think we’ll plot a path towards the Guineas via the traditional path, but there is still time,” Hayes said.

“It was a good win today. He was a bit keen in the run and was boxed in early in the straight and had to push out, but to put a gap on them like, that was really classy.

“I don’t think getting out to 1400 metres and then to a mile will be any problem.

“I think he’s an exciting horse.”
