Super Saturday football for round seven of the 2024 NRL Premiership kicks off in Bathurst with the Wests Tigers looking to repeat last year’s win over the Penrith Panthers at Carrington Park.

The Tigers are coming off the bye having suffered back-to-back losses on the road to the Dolphins and Dragons. Meanwhile, the Panthers’ three-match winning streak was snapped by the Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park last weekend.

The Panthers are without Nathan Cleary as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury. In better news for Penrith, Scott Sorensen has overcome a knee problem and takes his place in the back row, pushing Luke Garner to the bench and Matt Eisenhuth to the reserves.

Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall welcomes back second-rower John Bateman to the starting side, with Alex Seyfarth dropping back to the bench. Brent Naden starts in the centres in place of Solomona Faataape, teenage sensation Lachlan Galvin returns from suspension at five-eighth in place of Jayden Sullivan, and brothers Latu and Samuela Fainu join the interchange in place of Justin Matamua and Asu Kepaoa.

The Tigers have seen some support in betting since teams were named with Galvin and Bateman returning to the starting side. However, the Panthers remain strong favourites to win the match.

Panthers v Tigers betting predictions

The Penrith Panthers have won each of their last 10 daytime matches and three of their last five matches against the Tigers. Even so, the value bet in this match is to back the Tigers with the 13.5-point head start at $1.90. Wests have covered the line in each of their last four matches against Penrith, and they are a much-improved team this season under coach Marshall.

Justin Olam has been in some of the best form of his career since making the move to the Tigers, scoring at least one try in three of his past five games. The addition of Aidan Sezer at halfback has helped the PNG star record 11 tackle breaks and three line breaks already this season. Lining up against Izack Tago, there is great value for Olam to score a try at any time ($4).

Before last week’s loss to the Sea Eagles, the Panthers beat the Roosters without Cleary and downed the Broncos a week earlier when he went off injured. On both occasions, Penrith led the match at halftime before taking the two points. Get on the three-time defending premiers to return to winning ways by doing the halftime/fulltime double again ($1.40).
