Round 26 match preview: Penrith Panthers v South Sydney Rabbitohs
The Penrith Panthers will be looking to end a two-game losing streak on Friday night when they host the South Sydney Rabbitohs at BlueBet Stadium in Penrith in round 26 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.
South Sydney will be desperate for the season to end, given the side has lost six of their last seven matches. With two rounds left in the season and two wins separating them from the wooden spoon battle between the Eels and Tigers, the club will be desperate to find a way to win this match.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are in fourth spot on the NRL ladder and they will be determined to secure their spot in the top four to play a home semi-final. Should the Bulldogs win in the lead-up to this match kicking off, Penrith will be even more difficult to beat at home.
Rabbitohs interim head coach Ben Hornby will be forced to make a change to his side after naming captain Cameron Murray (suspended) to start at lock. Second-rower Keaon Koloamatangi could be shifted into the lock position, with Jacob Host promoted to the starting side and Liam Le Blanc to the interchange bench.
Meanwhile, Cody Walker (concussion) has been named to return at halfback and Siliva Havili will come off the bench for Shaquai Mitchell (calf).
Following the Panthers shock loss to the Raiders in Canberra last week, Ivan Cleary has recalled centre Paul Alamoti to the starting side in the centres over Casey Maclean and Sunia Turuva on the wing in place of Daine Laurie.
