Panthers v Cowboys match preview
The Penrith Panthers will be looking to extend their winning streak on Sunday afternoon as they face the North Queensland Cowboys at BlueBet Stadium.
In front of their home crowd, the Panthers are heavy favourites for this clash at $1.23 with Unibet, while the Cowboys offer a value selection at $4.75 with Bet365. The line is set at 13.5 points.
Last weekend, the Panthers had their bye, but in round 15, they secured an eight-point win against the Knights on the road. After conceding the first try of the match in the third minute, the Panthers then put on a first-half clinic with four unanswered tries, setting up the victory.
Sitting in second place on the ladder, Ivan Cleary’s side has a chance to go a game clear of the third-placed Sharks after their loss on Friday night. At $3 with leading NRL bookies, the Panthers are favourites for the premiership this season.
For now, all of Penrith’s Origin representatives have been named to play this week, but a final call will be made on Saturday. Meanwhile, Jake Cole and Mitch Kenny have both been named to return from injury, with Luke Sommerton and Brad Schneider both dropped to reserve grade.
The Cowboys also secured a win in round 15, as they beat the Raiders by 18 points in Canberra. Scoring the first five tries of the game, it was a statement performance from North Queensland against a fellow finals contender.
With four wins from their past five matches, the Cowboys have snuck up to ninth on the ladder. Despite a tough run to finish the season, top rugby league bookmakers have faith in the Cowboys at $1.62 to make the finals.
Unlike the Panthers, Todd Payton has elected to rest all of his Origin representatives for this clash. They will also lose star second-rower Jeremiah Nanai to a calf injury. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, Jordan McLean and Jake Clifford have all been brought into the starting side.

Panthers v Cowboys predictions
With the Cowboys missing all of their Origin stars, it is hard to see how they can match the quality of the Panthers. They haven’t won in Penrith since 2016, while the Panthers have won 14 of their last 16 matches at the venue. With little value in a straight bet, back the Panthers to cover the line of 13.5 points at $1.91 with top Australian bookmakers.
Facing the best defence in the NRL, it is hard to see the Cowboys scoring freely in this clash. The Panthers have gone under the total points line in five of their last six games, and with wet conditions expected, both teams should struggle with the ball. As such, back this match to go under 46.5 points at $1.91 with leading sports oddsmakers.
Coming off an excellent double for NSW on Wednesday, Penrith winger Brian To’o has now scored six tries in his last three matches. Playing on the left, he will be looking to expose a Cowboys defence that has conceded three tries in their past four games to left wingers. He also has an excellent record at home, with 23 tries in 17 games, so back To’o to score two or more tries at $3.40.
