Omei Sword fetches $1.7 million

Bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne has topped the $1.4 million he paid for Abbey Marie by paying $1.7 million for Omei Sword at the National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast

The Group One-placed Omei Sword, by High Chaparral out of 2009 Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, was offered for sale by Newgate Farm.

Earlier on Tuesday, Hawthorne signed for Oaks winner Abbey Marie who was the sixth horse into the Magic Millions ring at the opening session.

Triple Group One winner Jameka is scheduled for sale late on Tuesday and is predicted to be the sale topper.

The broodmare sale goes until Thursday.
