NRL 2022 fixture confirmed, State of Origin dates announced
The National Rugby League (NRL) has unveiled the official schedule for the 2022 regular season, as well as the fixture for the State of Origin series.
The 2022 NRL campaign will commence on March 10 with a Thursday night blockbuster between the Penrith Panthers and the Manly Sea Eagles.
Also in round one is a tantalising clash between the Brisbane Broncos and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, with former Bunnies star Adam Reynolds set to face his old club for the first time.
Round two will see the Melbourne Storm play their first game back at AAMI Park in nine months, marking one of several notable homecomings on the fixture list.
Undeniably the biggest of those is slated for round 15, when the New Zealand Warriors are set to face the Panthers at Mt Smart Stadium in their first match on home soil since 2019.
“The 2022 schedule celebrates the tribalism of our biggest rivalries back in their home towns,” NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo said on Tuesday.
“It is wonderful to be scheduling matches in NSW, ACT and Victoria again after the relocation in 2021 and we’re confident we will see the homecoming of the Warriors to New Zealand.
“Fans will be back at games right across the country and this schedule takes the Telstra Premiership to 20 cities and towns to maximise the opportunity for rugby league fans to watch their heroes live in person.”
The 2022 State of Origin series will kick off in Sydney on June 8, while the Women’s State of Origin match is set to be played on Friday, June 24.
