AFL Round 6: North Melbourne vs Carlton match preview
Carlton will be looking for their second win of the 2025 AFL season when they face North Melbourne in the annual Good Friday clash at Marvel Stadium.
Last Saturday, the Blues finally secured their first victory of 2025, beating West Coast by 71 points at Adelaide Oval. After a slow start to the day, the Blues kicked away in the second half, while limiting the Eagles to just 50 points. In a dominant display, the midfield duo of Sam Walsh and Patrick Cripps starred, combining for 60 disposals and six goals.
Although the Eagles are far from tough opposition, after starting the season 0-4 it was a much-needed win for Michael Voss’ side. With a squad that is full of talent across all parts of the ground, it is no surprise to see Carlton enter this clash as $1.38 favourites with top AFL betting sites.
It was a different story in Gather Round for the Kangaroos, who fell to their third successive loss last Saturday. While North were competitive up until the third quarter against the Gold Coast Suns, even leading midway through the term, they fell away badly late and conceded 10 of the last 12 goals to go down by 71 points.
The Roos have been anchored to the bottom of the AFL ladder for the last few seasons, and 2025 is shaping to be another frustrating season. North have a star-studded midfield, but their lack of key-position depth at both ends of the ground is a clear weakness. As a result, North Melbourne are underdogs in this clash at $3.10 with major online bookies.
Kangaroos vs Blues team news – Good Friday
The Carlton forward line is set for a major shuffle with Harry McKay (concussion) and Brodie Kemp (Achilles) both ruled out. Jack Silvagni and Lewis Young are both options to move inside 50, while star ruck Tom De Koning could spend more time forward if Marc Pittonet comes into the side. Wingman Blake Acres is also set to return after missing Gather Round due to illness.
North Melbourne could welcome back young midfielder George Wardlaw for his first game of the season, while utility Eddie Ford is also available. The likes of Riley Hardemann and Jacob Konstanty are at risk of being dropped after some poor recent form, with Bailey Scott and Toby Pink among those waiting in the wings.
North Melbourne vs Carlton AFL R6 predictions
With an average losing margin of 51 points over the last three weeks, it is hard to see the Kangaroos turning it around for this clash. Carlton have won the last four meetings between the sides, including a 56-point thrashing in this fixture last year. At $1.90 with leading Australian bookmakers, back the Blues to cover the line of -18.5 points.
In a disappointing start for the Kangaroos, a clear positive has been the form of small forward Paul Curtis. The 22-year-old has kicked 12 goals this season, including multiple majors in each game. Carlton have struggled against the smalls in 2025, so get on Curtis to continue his good form with two or more goals at $2.05 with Neds.
Coming off a 37-disposal game against the Eagles, Carlton midfielder Sam Walsh is the one to watch in this clash. He has now collected 30 or more in each of the last two weeks and offers good value to clear the mark again at $2 with Unibet.
