Toowoomba trainer Paul Nolan couldn’t be blamed for having a beaming smile after he won a metropolitan QTIS bonus race on Saturday.
Nolan’s Spending My Time ($11) charged home to beat Racecourse Road ($6) by a half head in the Rhumba Beach Resort Handicap at the Sunshine Coast.
The race carried $42,700 in first prize money and another $24,500 in QTIS bonus money which is for Queensland-bred horses.

“I have been trying to win a QTIS race on a Saturday for 15 years and this is my first. It is hard to describe how happy it has made me,” Nolan said.
“I got this bloke for $20,000 and to get nearly $70,000 today is my biggest ever payday. He is a lovely horse and I have great hopes for him once he gets out to 1600 metres.”
Nolan is the brother of top Toowoomba trainer Michael Nolan and mixes an accountancy business with racehorse training.
“The QTIS scheme is great for little trainers like me. You hope to get a good horse and then one finally comes along,” he said.
