No retirement for Gordon Lord Byron yet

Trainer Tom Hogan has quashed talk of retirement for globetrotting Irish sprinter Gordon Lord Byron..

The winner of three Group One races including the 2014 George Ryder Stakes in Sydney, Gordon Lord Byron has been disappointing in six starts since he won the Group Two Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh in July.

Despite the nine-year-old’s last of six runners at his most recent outing, Hogan is not talking retirement and is considering a trip to Dubai next year.

“He’s a bit stiff and sore, but he’ll be all right,” Hogan said.

“I don’t know where we’ll go now, we’ll see how he is.

“We might go to Dubai with him in the spring.

“There seems to be plenty of races out there for him on the grass over seven and six furlongs (1200m) and he’s dropped enough now to get into handicaps.”
