Next Carlton coach odds – Who will replace Bolton in 2020?

Carlton AFL betting news

Doomsday has arrived this morning for Brendon Bolton, who was today sacked from his post as head coach of the Carlton Football Club.

Bolton’s coaching career never took flight as he forced to rebuild for the entire four years he was at the helm, winning only 16 of 77 games and only four of the club’s last 44 encounters.

With Bolton out of the driver’s seat, someone needed to step up for the rest of the 2019 season and that man is David Teague.

A former Carlton Best and Fairest winner, Teague has been the club’s forward line coach for the last two seasons, and formerly worked as a defensive coach with West Coast.

Still, the question remains: who will take over as head coach beyond 2019?

The market has been formed and the candidates have come from all angles, with multiple current coaches on the list.

Leading the Sportsbet odds is current caretaker David Teague at $2.50, well ahead of the others due to his recent promotion.

Brad Scott enters the market at $5 just over two weeks after he got the sack at North Melbourne.

Current Carlton stoppages coach John Barker is priced at $8 to take control of the club – very healthy odds for the person who fell just short four seasons ago when the Blues picked Bolton.

Former Brisbane Lions head coach and current Port Adelaide midfield coach Michael Voss is also priced at $8.

Sam Mitchell rounds out the top five candidates at $9. The premiership captain of Hawthorn in 2008, Mitchell has been praised by Hawks boss Alastair Clarkson as a future coach and a great football mind.

From here on the names become more outlandish, with Paul Roos priced at $11 even though he has not held an AFL coaching position since 2016.

Interestingly, current coaches Rhyce Shaw ($18), Ross Lyon ($19), Alastair Clarkson ($21), Adam Simpson ($23) and John Longmire ($26) are all listed in the market.

Our outside choice would have to be former Carlton head coach Brett Ratten at $18. He has served his time as assistant coach at St Kilda since 2016 and may still have some love for the club he once led.
