Newcastle Jets v Western Sydney Wanderers tips; A-League Preview
Both the Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking for their first win of the new campaign when the two teams meet in A-League action at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.
On New Year’s Eve, the Newcastle Jets came up against F3 rivals Central Coast and after conceding just prior to half time, the Jets were unable to peg the margin back.
The Wanderers were part of history in their Matchweek 1 defeat when becoming the first side to lose to new boys Macarthur FC, after conceding a 72nd minute set piece.

The Jets certainly had their fair share of chances, none more noticeable than a Kosta Petratos effort in the 51st minute, which saw a spectacular save from Mariners keeper Mark Birighitti. The keeper again denied the Jets Angus Thurgate an equaliser in the 70th with an equally spectacular effort.
Considering Thurgate had the most shots on target by a Jets player against the Mariners, the Newcastle Jets will be hoping for more out of their front three against the Wanderers.
The Wanderers would consider themselves unlucky in their Matchweek One defeat to Macarthur FC, with the winning goal coming off a deflection, which completely wrong footed keeper Daniel Margush.
The Wanderers were also awarded a penalty in the first half, before VAR stepped in to overturn the on-field handball decision. If it wasn’t for former Socceroos keeper Adam Federici’s two world class saves, the Wanderers could have very easily taken all three points away from that game, and will look to do so here against the Jets.
Jets v Wanderers betting tips 8/1/2021
Western Sydney Wanderers to win
The team that the Wanderers have put together will be hard to keep down for two weeks in a row. With the likes of James Troisi, Bernie Ibini and Kwame Yeboah proving hard to contain in the A-League over the years. The Wanderers will look to claim their first win of the season against the Jets in Newcastle. After 20 shots at goals against Macarthur, with six of those on target, the Wanderers will be confident of winning this clash. Find the best A-League odds at the top online bookmakers.
Over 2.5 Goals – Match Total
Combined the Jets and the Wanderers had 33 shots at goal in Matchweek one, with 11 of those shots being on target. With both teams failing to trouble the scorers in match week one, we’re expecting a turnaround in fortunes for the two sides on Friday night, and we could be in store for a high-scoring affair to begin match week three. The over 2.5 match goal total is paying $1.75 with leading Australian bookmaker Playup.
First Half Over 1.5 Goals
We expect there will be plenty of goals in this fixture between the Jets and Wanderers and we’re happy to play the value here with Over 1.5 goals offering odds of $2.74 with Ladbrokes. We expect both sides to come out firing and if we are predicting both can net a goal prior to half-time.
