Mumbai head IPL 2025 title betting after thumping Lucknow
Mumbai Indians are the new favourites to win the 2025 Indian Premier League title after they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Cricket betting sites have the five-time champions at $3.50 to lift the trophy this season, with the side sitting third on the IPL ladder having now won five straight matches.
Labelled as favourites pre-match by BetOnline, MI took on the LSG bowlers from the get-go to post an impressive total of 7/215 batting first.
Rohit Sharma (12 from 5) and Ryan Rickelton (58 from 32) did the early damage, with Rohit cracking back-to-back sixes to take MI to 0/33 from the first 14 balls.
While Rohit fell next over, Rickelton ensured Mumbai’s innings kept motoring along.
His knock, along with contributions from Will Jacks (29 from 21) and Suryakumar Yadav (54 from 28), gave the hosts an excellent platform.
While Tilak Varma (6 from 5) and Hardik Pandya (5 from 7) both misfired, Naman Dhir (25* from 11) and Corbin Bosch (20 from 10) put on a late flurry to haul MI well beyond the 200-run mark.
Set a target of 216 to win, Lucknow were never able to get ahead of the curve.
Mitchell Marsh made a solid 34 from 24 at the top, while Nicholas Pooran (27 from 15) and Ayush Badoni (35 from 22) also chipped in, but nobody hung around long enough for LSG to be competitive.
The result was the visitors folding for 161 on the final ball of the chase, with Jasprit Bumrah ending on figures of 4/22 from his four overs.
Afterwards, MI captain Pandya attributed their fifth straight win to “the momentum which we had and carrying that momentum”.
“Everyone kept taking the chances,” he said.
“At the end it looked like we have lost of a few wickets.
“But Bosch and Naman came in and chipped in.
“We knew when to kill the game and we were awesome.
“The good teams are made of that when everyone comes in and chips in.”
Despite Mumbai’s momentum, Pandya is not getting carried away and is already focused on his side’s next clash against Rajasthan Royals on Friday.
“This competition is very tough and we can’t afford to get carried away,” he said.
“We will always look forward to play good cricket and always look at the next game.”
IPL betting apps are yet to release odds for Mumbai’s next fixture, but with RR languishing near the bottom of the table, Indians will be heavy favourites to win.
