More quality races for Sunshine Coast

Queensland trainers are pushing for the Sunshine Coast track to have more top class races while Eagle Farm is closed.

The Sunshine Coast’s Corbould Park and Brisbane’s Eagle Farm are by far the two biggest racetracks in the state.

Eagle Farm has been closed for much of the past three years and while the Sunshine Coast races every Sunday, it has few metropolitan meetings.

The Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers Association met with Racing Queensland officials this week to discus the issue.

It was suggested the Sunshine Coast have more open company and higher benchmark races from 1200m to 1800m for horses needing bigger tracks.

The move was also seen as a way to attract more southern horses for the summer carnival.

Racing Queensland is considering the request.
