Makybe Diva’s daughter wins at Geelong
A lightly raced daughter of three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva has scored for the second time with a fighting win at Geelong.
Four-year-old Divanation, by All Too Hard, is the sixth foal of Makybe Diva, and on Thursday claimed her second win from four starts.
Trained by Tony McEvoy, Divanation was successful on debut at Werribee last May before running second over 1800m the following month at Morphettville.
She returned with a third at Moonee Valley last month before claiming victory over 1750m as the $2.15 favourite on Thursday.
Melbourne foreman Michael Shepherdson said McEvoy would like to get the mare to stakes level, picking out the Listed Centaurea Stakes at Morphettville on May 18.
“Tony’s got good plans for her,” Shepherdson said.
“There’s a nice 2000-metre race at Morphettville during the carnival for the fillies and mares and Tony would love to get her there.
“She’ll probably need another run on the way there, so we can gradually build her up in trip.
“We’ve been real patient with her, taken our time and we’re going to be rewarded.
“She’s had a good little blow today and she’s still got some nice improvement to come.”
Divanation joins Rockstardom and Taqneen as dual winners for Makybe Diva while another of her progeny, Surrey, has been successful once in New Zealand.
