Magic Alibi for Rosehill not Doomben

Another tilt at stakes racing is on hold for Magic Alibi who will have her next start in a benchmark race at Rosehill rather than travel to Brisbane.

Trainer Gerald Ryan still plans to take her to the Queensland carnival but will run her at home on Saturday in the 1200m-benchmark 85 handicap rather than the Listed Bright Shadow at Doomben.

“She will stay here and will go up later on for the Gai Waterhouse Classic at the Ipswich meeting next month,” Ryan said.

Magic Alibi, Group-placed in Sydney, went to Queensland in the summer and ran third in a Gold Coast sprint before her fourth in the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race.

She returned with a midfield finish over 1100m at Rosehill last Saturday week.

Ryan said last-start Warwick Farm winner I Like It Easy would not run at Rosehill with the two-year-old to be kept for another week.

“She will wait for the 1400-metre race at Randwick on Saturday week which I thnk will suit her better than the 1200,” he said.

I Like It Easy is raced by Bert Vieira who also owns star colt Trapeze Artist who is in the spelling paddock ahead of a preparation aimed at the $13 million Everest in October.

The winner of two Group One weight-for-age sprints this autumn, the TJ Smith and All Aged Stakes, Trapeze Artist already has his Everest slot and will represent Vieira and Aquis Farm.

“He is spelling really well and looks terrific,” Ryan said.

“We haven’t mapped out a program for him yet.

“Menari will start back in work next week and hopefully we get to the Everest with him as well.”

Trapeze Artist’s early career was overshadowed by Menari but that changed when he upstaged his more fancied stablemate to win the Group One Golden Rose in September.

While Ryan has much to look forward to with the younger brigade, stable stalwart Red Excitement remains a favourite and his second to Osborne Bulls in the Luskin Star Stakes at Scone on Saturday has confirmed a trip to Brisbane.

“He ran terrific,” Ryan said. “He will go to the Lord Mayor’s Cup at Doomben on the 26th (May).
