Two of the most prolific clubs in world football are set to clash in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Final this Saturday when Real Madrid take on Liverpool.

Liverpool are 10-1-1 in UEFA Champions League matches during the 2021-22 season with a meaningless 1-0 loss in the second leg of the Round of 16 against Inter Milan as the only blemish on the club’s record in the UCL. Powered by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, Liverpool’s attack scored 94 goals in English Premier League play and have racked up 11 goals against Villarreal and Benfica over the last two rounds of the UCL.

Real Madrid have also scored 11 goals over the last two rounds, both of which needed added extra time to resolve. Real have taken an incredible path to the final with a 6-5 aggregate win over Manchester City, a 5-4 aggregate win over Chelsea and a 3-2 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain to get to this point. Karim Benzema has scored 10 goals in Real Madrid’s last five UCL matches, and he leads a potent attack that also features Vinicius Junior.

This is a tough one to predict. Liverpool had the better season statistically in league play and have also looked more dominant in UCL play, although Real Madrid have faced much sterner competition in the knockout rounds. Both of these clubs have plenty of experience on this stage; Real Madrid are the all-time leaders in UEFA Champions League titles with 13, while Liverpool’s six titles put them tied for fourth place with Bayern Munich. Both of these clubs have also had a flare for the dramatic this season with Real Madrid’s incredible performances in the knockout stage and Liverpool having earned a whopping 20 points from losing positions in EPL play this year.

We’re going to take the guesswork of extra time and the potential for penalties out of the equation and focus on a regulation-time wager here. With that in mind, our best bet is on Real Madrid as a 0.5-point underdog (-135 with BetOnline). A Liverpool win in regulation is certainly a reasonable outcome, but so is a Real Madrid upset win. And given how hard these two clubs fight from behind, a late goal to send this one to extra time seems quite likely too. The price is right on Madrid to win in regulation or for this one to go into added time.
