Linda Meech winds up season at Swan Hill
A winning double at Swan Hill won’t be enough for Linda Meech to be the leading female rider in Australia.
Meech started a suspension, incurred at Bendigo on Sunday, following Monday’s Swan Hill meeting, ruling her out for the remainder of the season.
Her season ends on 127, one win shy of Adelaide’s Jamie Kah.
The suspension also ends her hopes of Victorian honours with Dean Yendall, currently sidelined with injury, the leader on 138.
Kah has the opportunity to build on her remarkable season with six rides at Murray Bridge on Wednesday.
She is nine wins ahead of Clare Lindop in the South Australian metropolitan premiership with Emily Finnegan to be the leading Adelaide apprentice.
Meech previously shared the record of 111 winners in a season for a female rider with Lindop.
NSW’s Rachael Murray sits in third place with 117 winners for 2016-17.
Western Australia’s William Pike is the leading jockey Australia wide with 191-1/2 wins, 9-1/2 ahead of Queensland veteran Jeff Lloyd with one week remaining this season.
