Lady Jetsetter back to Doomben

A three month-wait by trainer Liam Birchley should prove worthwhile when Lady Jetsetter returns to her favourite track and distance at Doomben.

Birchley has been waiting for the right race at the track for Lady Jetsetter and he gets it in the Sofitel Open (1050m) on Saturday.

Lady Jetsetter has had seven starts at the Doomben 1050m for four wins and a second.

Circumstances have meant she hasn’t raced at the track and distance since running a near course record on November 12 but she finished close in races at Eagle Farm and the Sunshine Coast.

“She is one of those horses who really likes Doomben,” Birchley said.

“She can also run slick time if things go her way. At her last start she ran 59.7 seconds and she is one of the few horses to get under a minute for the 1050 metres at Doomben.”

Birchley has booked Brisbane’s leading apprentice Tiffani Brooker who has a win on Lady Jetsetter.

“Lady Jetsetter can be hard to ride but Tiffani reduces her weight to just 52 kilos which is also a help,” Birchley said.

Birchley has not given up hope her stablemate, the well-bred Beckham can win a stakes race and earn a possible career as a sire.

Beckham will be having his second run back from a spell in the Betfair Open (1350m).

By Pins out of Group One winning mare Glamour Puss, Beckham has a great record in races around the 1350m mark having won six times at various degrees of the distance.

“He would want to improve a bit to win a stakes race but we can live in hope,” Birchley said.
