Krystle Johnston close to 100 career wins

There will be a family celebration if trainer Krystle Johnston can reach her 100th career win with Craiglea Deken and Craiglea Wandoo at Doomben.

Johnston has made a great fist of training and brought up her 98th win in just three years when Craiglea Deken won the Cairns Newmarket at his most recent start.

Craiglea Wandoo was equal third in that race after a luckless run.

It was Johnston’s second biggest win to date after she took the 2016 Queensland Lightning with Executed.

Johnston trains mainly for the Sunshine Coast’s Craiglea Stud which is run by her father Stan Johnston and his wife Marilyn.

They are noted for taking their horses all over Queensland and Krystle has led in winners from far north Queensland to western Queensland and the south east corner.

Craiglea Deken, who has won 15 races, and Craiglea Wandoo, an 11-time winner, are typical of their tough and consistent horses.

Craiglea Deken is set to tackle the Open Handicap (1600m) and Craiglea Wandoo is in the Benchmark 75 (1350m) at Doomben.

Stan Johnston is full of praise for his daughter.

“Krystle works hard and she deserves the rewards,” Johnston said.

He said it was a family business with everyone helping each other.

Leading Central Queensland jockey Adrian Coome who won the Newmarket on Craiglea Deken will make a rare Brisbane appearance to ride both horses on Saturday.
