Klinger & McCullum to score 50 betting – Perth vs. Brisbane BBL tips
What on Earth has happened to the poor old Brisbane Heat?
After a disappointing finish to last season, the Heat’s woes have continued into 2018/19 with three-straight losses to begin its campaign.
With the explosive Chris Lynn leading the side at the top of the order and former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum opening the innings, the Heat were widely tipped to be a big improver this season, but it just hasn’t worked.
Can the boys from Brisbane get their first notch in the win column against a similarly-struggling Perth Scorchers on Sunday?
The Heat can hardly blame their captain for their woes. Lynn is eighth on the league’s runs table with 146 from just 3 games with an average of 48.67.
The form of Brendon McCullum, however, is a serious worry, given he is still a highly-paid import. It’s still early in the season and McCullum has long since retired from international cricket, but his return of 16 runs from three games is really disappointing for someone of his talent.
The Heat, which does not have a strong bowling lineup by any measure, needs McCullum to fire up and recapture some of his belligerent best if they are to compete for the rest of the season.
One of the only sides the Heat may fancy beating right now in the BBL is the Perth Scorchers.
The most successful side in Big Bash League history has had a horror start to the season, going 1-4 from its five games.
Everything has gone wrong for the Scorchers. The batting hasn’t clicked, the bowling has looked toothless and they seemed to have lost their home ground advantage with the move to Optus Stadium.
Half century betting odds & tips for Scorchers vs. Heat
Brendon McCullum
$4.65 @ Sportsbet to make 50
After a horrid start to the season, we think the old New Zealand legend is primed to blast a solid score in this one. McCullum has been sliding down the batting order, but should still get ample opportunity to face enough deliveries to make 50 and once he gets going, he should only need 20 balls.
Michael Klinger
$5.20 @ Sportsbet to make 50
The old Scorchers veteran has struggled in the first five games of the season and there are even calls for him to be dropped for this game. Klinger has made just 58 runs in five games at a slow 79.45 strike rate. After years of solid service, we expect one of domestic cricket’s greatest accumulators to put a score together here to save his season.
Head-to-head winner tip for Scorchers vs. Heat
Who wins this battle of the BBL strugglers?
Logic says that the Scorchers should be able to do the job on their home deck, but with Chris Lynn coming off an electric 83 and Brisbane desperate to notch its first win, we think there’s an upset brewing here that could give the Heat’s season a pulse.
Our tip: Back Brisbane to win at $2.15
