Kersley sidelined following Sandown fall

Apprentice Fred Kersley could be sidelined for up to six weeks following a fall from Foudre Boulon at Sandown.

Kersley was taken to Epworth Hospital after Foudre Boulon broke down and fell near the 300m mark of the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap on Wednesday.

A Victorian Jockeys’ Association statement said Kersley suffered a fractured thumb and a hairline fracture to his elbow and will be sidelined for between four and six weeks.

It’s a bitter blow for Kersley who had earlier this month moved from Perth to Melbourne on loan to Lindsay Park and last week rode a double for the stable at Geelong.

Kersley is the grandson of West Australian harness racing legend and multiple Group One winning thoroughbred trainer Fred Kersley.

Foudre Boulon suffered a serious injury and was euthanaised.
