Kenjorwood takes stakes race at Caulfield
Darren Weir will consider freshening Kenjorwood for a trip to the Gold Coast after his narrow win in a stakes race at Caulfield.
Sent out the $2.45 favourite, Kenjorwood took out the Listed Lord Stakes on Monday under the steadier of 60kg.
Ridden by Brad Rawiller, Kenjorwood scored by a neck from Hell Or Highwater ($4) with Khutulun ($10) a short-head away third.
Weir said the $1 Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 14 was now a possibility.
“There’s not many opportunities for him to be racing for a million dollars,” Weir said.
“He is a Magic Millions horse so we may freshen him up and he can be a travelling companion for Lucky Hussler.
“We were heading to this race and he got the job done so we’ll have a think about what we do now.”
Weir said Kenjorwood had to do it the tough way on Saturday after being forced to cover ground.
“He’s in great shape and he had to be to win that race today,” Weir said.
“He had to do it the tough way but with these sorts of horses when you get them in that type of form, they make their own sort of luck.”
The victory completed a treble for Weir after the wins of Big Duke and Plein Ciel earlier on the Caulfield program.
