Jockey Jim Orman hurts back in fall
Jockey Jim Orman has suffered a fracture of his T9 vertebra in a race fall at the Sunshine Coast.
Orman’s horse Red Mahogany appeared to clip heels in the maiden race on Friday night and crashed to the ground cartwheeling over the rider.
In the backwash Nathan Thomas was dislodged from Henry’s Affair.
A badly shaken Orman was taken to the University Hospital on the Sunshine Coast where he underwent scans.
“I have a wedge fracture of the T9 in my back but thankfully it is stable. They are saying I should be right to ride in six to eight weeks with physio,” Orman said.
“It is bad luck but I will just have to work on my rehabilitation. The doctors said I should hopefully be right to go home today (Saturday).”
Thomas appeared to have escaped serious injury in the fall as did the two horses.
