Jack Wighton contemplates return to rep footy ahead of judicary meeting
Jack Wighton, the star player, for the Canberra Raiders who recently joined the South Sydney Rabbitohs is currently contemplating a comeback to representative football after retiring.
This reconsideration comes in light of an allegation of biting that has led to his referral to the NRL judiciary.
If he receives a suspension it could impact his availability for the nations series with the Kangaroos. Wightons time at the Raiders came to an end with a loss in time during their elimination final against the Knights.
However he now faces the possibility of missing out on playing in the rounds of next season with his new club due to scheduled judiciary proceedings taking place on Tuesday night. The twist in this story lies in Wightons return to duty.
November he played a role in helping Mal Meningas Kangaroos secure victory at the World Cup; however he announced his retirement from representative football before this years State of Origin.
Now there are rumors circulating that he might reconsider that decision and make a comeback with the Kangaroos. However Meninga has made it clear that Wighton will not be considered for selection until after a decision is reached by the judiciary.
This development coincides with an incident involving Wighton and Tyson Gamble during the Raiders elimination against the Knights where biting allegations were made.During a discussion, on NRL 360 panel there were differing opinions expressed regarding this incident. While some people thought Wighton should have been given a card others argued that there was uncertainty, about whether he bit Gamble.
The discussion surrounding the incident and its impact on the game has grown more intense taking into account the consequences of making a decision. In the meantime there are rumors that South Sydney might benefit from Wightons reconsideration since it could enable him to serve part of his suspension while playing for the Kangaroos.
However this situation has raised concerns, about the integrity of the game and whether such tactics to manipulate suspension periods should be permitted.
