Is Winx unbeatable in 2017? Bookmakers open market on star mare

CHRIS Waller wonder-mare might be the $1.16 favourite to make a winning return in the Group Two Apollo Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, but WilliamHill.com.au is already looking further than this weekend.

William Hill opened a market on just how far Winx’s unbeaten stretch can extend in the new year.

Punters who think the 13 race win-streak will continue until the end of 2017 can get $3 on their investment at William Hill.

The five-year-old must compete in four or more races for the bet to stand and wagers are limited to $250 per customer.

The stable took to Twitter to declare Winx good-to-go for the Apollo Stakes on Saturday.

“She galloped in company with Preferment and had the edge over him in the concluding stages and we thought both horses worked well.” the tweet read.

“Hugh (Bowman) and Chris are both happy with where she is at this preparation and her fitness ahead of her first up run this Saturday in the Apollo Stakes at Randwick,”

Whenever Winx takes to the track there are always heavy expectations, but the horse’s regular hoop Hugh Bowman believes Saturday’s group two race is well within its reach.

“I’m expecting her to win, as does everyone else, but it is a horse race until it is done. I will be treating it like I do every other time I ride in a race,” Bowman said.

“I have a lot confidence in her, but I won’t take anything for granted with her, I never have and I won’t be starting now.

“I expect her to come to Randwick in good shape and she is forward enough to run very well.”

Ladbrokes.com.au is running an Apollo Stakes promotion on Winx this Saturday.

While all the other bookmakers are offering $1.20 or less on the great mare for Saturday’s group two return at Randwick, Ladbrokes is putting up the boosted odds of $1.80 for the mare to make it 14 straight wins.
