IPL 2025: Siraj, Titans extend Sunrisers’ losing streak
Gujarat Titans dealt Sunrisers Hyderabad their fourth-straight loss of IPL 2025 on Monday (AEST), winning by seven wickets thanks to a man-of-the-man performance by pacer Mohammed Siraj at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
GT put SRH in to bat after winning the toss and found immediate rewards, with Siraj removing opener Travis Head (8 from 5) in the opening over for the first of his four wickets.
Abhishek Sharma (18 from 16) was undone by the fast bowler later in the powerplay, leaving the visitors at 2/38.
This quickly became 3/50 when Prasidh Krishna removed Ishan Kishan (17 from 14), swinging live betting odds decisively in the visitors’ favour across IPL bookmakers.
Heinrich Klaasen (27 from 19) and Aniket Verma (18 from 14) rebuilt with a 50-run partnership, but a five-wicket burst — including two more for Siraj — in the space of 31 balls shattered SRH’s hopes of a competitive total.
Set a target of 153 to win, GT were in trouble early as Sai Sudharsan (5 from 9) and Jos Buttler (0 from 3) stumbled through the first few overs.
Captain Shubman Gill (61* from 43) and Washington Sundar (49 from 29) then settled into a rhythm, however, putting on 90 runs for the third wicket.
Sherfane Rutherford added 35 not out from 16 after Sundar fell, easing Gujarat over the line with 20 balls and seven wickets to spare.
“Bowlers are game changers, especially in this format,” Gill said after the match.
“Lots of people talk about T20’s batting and hitting, but we think matches are won by bowlers.
“That is why [there is] a lot of emphasis on bowlers [in this franchise].
“The energy he (Siraj) brings is tremendous.
“When playing against him, you want him in your team. His energy is infectious.”
Gujarat’s victory takes them to second on the IPL ladder, level with Delhi Capitals on six points.
Cricket betting sites have them priced as equal-favourites to win the 2025 IPL title, paying $5.50 alongside Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Hyderabad, meanwhile, slip to the last line of betting and bottom spot on the table, with BetOnline now paying $17 for them to win this year’s tournament.
