IPL 2025: RCB firm in title odds after beating Mumbai Indians
Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring affair at the Wankhede on Tuesday morning (AEST), prevailing by 12 runs to firm their status as favourites to win the 2025 Indian Premier League across cricket bookmakers.
IPL betting sites had the match as a pick ‘em pre-toss, pricing both teams at $1.90 to win.
However, RCB grabbed the bull by the horns batting first, racing out to 1/95 after Phil Salt (4 from 2) fell second ball.
That quickly became 2/143 despite Devdutt Padikkal (37 from 22) falling in the ninth over, with Virat Kohli (67 from 42) and Rajat Patidar (64 from 32) sharing a healthy stand for the third wicket.
Kohli and Liam Livingstone (0 from 2) both got out in the 15th over, but Patidar combined with Jitesh Sharma (40* from 19) for a further 69 runs.
While captain Patidar holed out with six balls remaining, the damage was already done as Bengaluru posted an impressive 5/221.
In response, MI dragged their feet initially, losing regular wickets and trailing the required run rate.
However, from 4/99 in the 11th over, Tilak Varma (56 from 29) and Hardik Pandya (42 from 15) put on a sublime partnership to take the hosts to 4/188 in the 18th.
With 34 runs required from 15 balls and two set batsmen at the crease, the match was Mumbai’s to lose — and they did exactly that, with Varma and Pandya both shelling out in the space of four balls.
A further three wickets fell in the final over as a desperate MI crumbled, slipping to 9/209 and coming up 12 runs short.
“It was a really amazing match,” Patidar said afterwards.
“It was very hard. The way the bowlers have shown their courage, it was amazing to watch.
“It is not easy to stop any team, especially at this ground, and the way they have done it, was incredible.
“The way the fast bowlers executed their plans was amazing.”
The victory takes RCB to third on the IPL ladder, equal on points with leaders Delhi Capitals and the second-placed Gujarat Titans.
T20 betting sites have further shortened Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 title odds to $4.50, which puts them ahead of GT ($5.50), DC ($6) and Punjab Kings ($7) in the market.
