Invincible Express wins again
Promising mare Invincible Express has overcome problems before and during a race at Ipswich to stay on course for the winter carnival.
Invincible Express ($2.50) made it five wins in a row when she won an 1100m- Class Six race on Wednesday.
She was taken out of the barriers before the race when another runner drawn near her was cast in its box.
Invincible Express went back into the barriers but was second last early before racing five and six-deep to sweep around the field and score a fighting win.
Trainer David Vandyke will push on into the winter with Invincible Express but won’t over-match her.
“She has a Class Six left and then she can race in open company. I would like to be back here at the end of the carnival for the Gai Waterhouse Stakes on Cup day,” Vandyke said.
“It was only a midweek race today but it was a good win. She is promising.”
Odds-on favourite Pinolino ($1.65) was another who had to deal with problems in her race before winning a Class Two (1690m).
The mare races in the colours of Sir Peter Vela worn by Caulfield-Melbourne Cups winner Ethereal.
Liam Birchley’s foreman Allan Russell said it had been expected Pinolino would race on the pace because she didn’t have a big final sprint.
“She was slow to go and got back to last but Adam (Sewell) got a rails run which was the difference in winning or losing,” Russell said..
Owner/trainer Allen Fisher was the least surprised when his only horse Te Rangi ($25) scored an upset win in the Class 1 (1200m).
It was Te Rangi’s second win in 42 starts but he had also run 13 minor placings for Fisher who is based at Beaudesert.
“He goes well fresh and he doesn’t like the heat,” Fisher said.
“That’s why we put him away in the summer. I thought he would have been extremely hard to beat had he drawn a better barrier but he still led and from there I expected him to be hard to beat.”
