Interlocuter makes up for protest defeat

Interlocutor
Interlocutor scores a dashing win at Randwick after being beaten on protest at his previous start.

Tye Angland has made sure there was no room for error aboard Interlocuter at Randwick with the Godolphin horse avenging his last-start loss on protest.

Interlocuter was demoted to second at Rosehill last month when Brenton Avdulla on Wayanka successfully arguing his running was taken in the straight.

On Saturday, Angland and Interlocuter were out on their own and out of trouble for much of the final 300 metres of the Adina Hotels Handicap (1600m).

Interlocuter, the $2.40 favourite, had 2-3/4 lengths to spare over Mapmaker ($3.90) who finished a half-head in front of Impavido ($6.50).

Trainer James Cummings said Godolphin was in no rush to step the French import up to stakes company yet.

“He’s a beautiful horse and we will take it steady with him,” Cummings said.

“There’s a bit to work with there but we are in no rush.

“He has a beautiful big stride and looks as if he will eventually step up to 2000 metres.”

Angland said he got out of the pack a little earlier than he planned but once he was clear, the horse did the rest.

“I was in an awkward spot but he was going so well it didn’t matter and I didn’t want a repeat of last time,” he said.

Interlocuter has now won three of his five Australian starts and finished second in the other two.
