India thrash Zimbabwe to win series despite earlier upset
India have defeated Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the fourth T20I of their series in Harare on Saturday, claiming an unassailable 3-1 lead after losing the first match.
Just a week ago, the minnows had embarrassed the newly crowned T20 World Champions by defeating them in the first match of the series.
Despite the cricket side being a second-string team, India bounced back in style winning three games on the bounce to claim the series win.
Their most recent was also the most emphatic, restricting the home nation to 152/7 then chasing the total down without the loss of any wickets in 15.2 overs.
Jaiswal and Gill star in big win
Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubham Gill were the stars of the show on Saturday, with the Indian batsmen both scoring unbeaten half centuries.
The sides bowlers kept Zimbabwe to a modest total first. Khaleel Ahmed and Ravi Bishnoi were the pick of the bunch, with Ahmed taking two wickets and Bishnoi maintaining a miserly 5.50 economy rate across his four overs.
Captain Sikandar Raza provided the most resistance for Zimbabwe, scoring 46 from 28 as his side hobbled to 152/7.
In response, Jaiswal and Gill put on a spectacle.
The pair went at over 10 runs per over as they chased down the total, with Jaiswal narrowly missing out on a century.
“I think I really enjoyed [batting] today, said Jaiswal, who made 93 from 53 balls.
“The wicket was pretty good and I had some plans for different bowlers.
“I was just trying to play all my shots where I can play and I really enjoyed today’s innings.”
With India testing out four different opening batsmen already this series, Jaiswal has staked his claim as the nation’s first choice heading into the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Understandably, India are heavy favourites at the top cricket bookmakers to defend their title, paying just $2.50 to win the tournament in two years’ time.
