Hunt hopeful about Reynolds, Walsh combination at Broncos

Brisbane Broncos

Ben Hunt is confident he will be able to help get the best out of Reece Walsh at the Brisbane Broncos in the 2025 NRL season.

The veteran halfback, who returns to Brisbane after leaving the St George Illawarra Dragons with a year left on his contract, believes his combination with pivot Adam Reynolds will be key in unlocking Walsh’s full potential.

“We (Hunt and Reynolds) can be very beneficial for the side, and I’d love to help the younger guys take their game to another level, Reece included,” Hunt said.

“I’m looking forward to working on our game plans with ‘Reyno’ (Reynolds) because between us two old heads, we can steer the ship around and bring the best out in Reece and the rest of the side.

“Reece has unleashed himself pretty well the last few years.

“But any way I can come in, get him more involved in the game and get him more quality ball in better positions, I think I can help him with that.

“I’m really excited to be playing with a guy like Reece, he is a freakish talent with speed to burn.”

Walsh was a key cog in the Broncos’ 2023 grand final run but only played 14 matches for the club in 2024, with injuries sidelining him for large parts of the season.

With the fullback expected to be healthy in 2025, Brisbane sit on the third line of betting at $8 to win the title at most NRL bookmakers.

Hunt believes he can help the club claim the premiership in his last two years of competition.

“I definitely think I can help a club win a comp,” he said.

“I feel like I have something to offer, and I’d like to think I can contribute in a big way and take the Broncos to finals footy.

“If I didn’t think I was still up to it, I don’t think I would be here, and clubs wouldn’t want me to be here.

“A premiership really would cap off a great career, a strange career at times, but I want to lift that NRL trophy for the Broncos.”

Brisbane’s main competition in 2025 is expected to be this year’s grand finalists, with the Melbourne Storm ($3.75) and Penrith Panthers ($4.75) occupying the top two lines of betting across top rugby league betting sites.
