Brisbane Heat will play Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday night at the Gabba in what promises to be an interesting match between two teams that are occupying the middle of the BBL ladder.

The BBL season has been thrown into chaos with a Covid outbreak upending the schedule and depleting the playing ranks and this presents opportunities to the smart investor. The Hobart Hurricanes were beaten by 7 wickets on Wednesday by the Adelaide Strikers but they’re usually a much better team then that and they should put in a much better performance this time. Ben McDermott’s purple patch seems to have run its course but they have another good scoring option with D’Arcy Short averaging 32 at nearly a run a ball.

The rest of the batting line up needs to improve and their scores over the past month are full of single figures dotted with an occasional 30 or 40. Harry Brook, Caleb Jewell and Peter Handscomb are all running out of chances and this game will be a prime opportunity to rectify the situation.

Sandeep Lamichhane is at last taking wickets with his craft leg spinners and if he’s backed up by the outfielders then he should be in the game yet again. Riley Meredith has taken wickets in every game so far this season except on Wednesday night and his fast bowling is starting to be respected by all the batters in the BBL.

With 12 players out due to testing to Covid Brisbane Heat are in a desperate situation and they will need to call up players who have no experience at this level. Only 3 of the original squad are available for this game and even the coach Wade Secombe can’t participate in this game. The good news is Fakhar Zaman who is a Pakistani international batter has joined the team along with Jake Lehmann and 19 year old Will Prestwidge. Zaman has now played 176 T20 games and has proven to be a consistent opening batter with an average of 26. Jake Lehmann is the son of the coach Darren Lehmann but it should be remembered he scored 65 against the Renegades in Geelong on Thursday. .I’m sure everyone in the team is ready to give it a go but the fact is that most of the team is out of their depth.

Brisbane Heat V Hobart Hurricanes Betting Tips

Top Hobart Hurricanes Run Scorer: Ben McDermott

Despite the fact that he had a relatively low score of 11 on Wednesday he could score his third hundred of the season against the Brisbane Heat’s moderate bowling attack. He loves to dominate and the ground should suit his style of batting which relies on intelligent cross bat shots combined with powerful straight hits. When the international white ball season arrives he must surely be in the selectors thoughts to wear green and gold this summer.

To Take 2+ Wickets: Sandeep Lamichhane

The Nepalese leg spinner is only 21 but he’s already played 110 T20 games and taken 146 wickets. His accuracy combined with his intelligent variations should see him amongst the wickets yet again. His wrong ‘un will cause plenty of worries against a batting line up of this class but he seems to have the ability to hold it back until required and when he does bowl it’s devastating. Plenty of soft dismissals come off his bowling because he bowls with a lot of topspin which is hard to get away.
