Greg Ryan banned over handling of Mr Chow

Star country jockey Greg Ryan has been handed a seven-week suspension for not giving Mr Chow every chance to win at Scone.

Ryan was suspended for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to give Mr Chow full opportunity to win an 1100m maiden at Scone on October 23.

Stewards found he unnecessarily restrained the horse in the early stages the race, contrary to his instructions from trainer Bjorn Baker to settle midfield.

In addition, they determined Ryan had allowed Mr Chow to shift in during the race and then directed the horse away from an emerging run which resulted in the horse being badly held up for clear running until the 200m mark.

The horse, a $7.50 chance, finished seventh in the 10-horse field.

Unless he successfully appeals the ban, Ryan will be out of action until December 29.

It is the second time Ryan has been outed for the charge after he was slapped with a six-week ban in July 2014 over his handling of Grey Pariz in a race at Dubbo, which he unsuccessfully appealed.
