Goorjian names Australian Boomers Olympic squad, Thybulle omitted
Brian Goorjian unveiled the 12-player basketball squad set to represent Australia at the Paris Olympics, with some notable exclusions.
Matisse Thybulle, Xavier Cooks, Chris Goulding, Dejan Vasiljevic, and Jack White did not make the cut after Australia’s exhibition matches against China.
Thybulles absence comes as a surprise since many had expected him to play a key role in the defence for the team.
Matthew Dellavedova, who missed out on the FIBA World Cup selection last year, has secured his spot for his Olympic appearance, with the top Olympic bookmakers pricing Australia as a $51 hope to secure Gold.
Meanwhile, Patty Mills and Joe Ingles will mark their fifth outings alongside newcomers Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels, Will Magnay and Jack McVeigh.
Opals standout Lauren Jackson is also set to participate in her fifth Olympic Games as part of a squad aiming for gold medal success in Paris, with Neds offering $26 for Gold.
Jackson, Mills and Ingles have the distinction of being part of the team for five consecutive Olympics, joining the ranks of basketball icon Andrew Gaze as the only Australians to achieve this feat.
