Trainer James Cummings has put blinkers on Scone Group Three contender Ghisoni.

Godolphin head trainer James Cummings has introduced a gear change designed to help Ghisoni when she runs in the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic at Scone.

The five-year-old races with blinkers for the first time in Saturday’s 1400m-feature for fillies and mares in her attempt to improve on a close second to Pecans in the Group Three Godolphin Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury last month.

“We’ve gone with the blinkers to encourage her to hit top gear sooner and she should be running very well,” Cummings said.

“The mare appears now to have the constitution to maintain good form throughout a preparation “

Ghisoni, to be ridden by Tye Angland, was the $4.40 favourite with the TAB on Thursday ahead of the Hawkes Racing-trained Dyslexic at $4.80.

Godolphin also has Philosophy ($10) in the Dark Jewel Classic.

“She’s racing out of the handicaps here, but at her best could figure as a top-five chance,” Cummings said.

Stablemate Osborne Bulls makes his step up to stakes grade at Saturday’s Scone meeting, seeking his seventh win from 10 starts in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m).

Osborne Bulls has never been outside the top three and most recently Tribal Wisdom edged him out by a half head in a 1400m-handicap at Randwick on April 21.

“He’d add more to his reputation if he can show himself in a good light against horses of this calibre,” Cummings said.

“This race should set up nicely for him, and while he can get back, he should have the entire straight to wind up.”

Cummings is also sending three-year-old filly Resin up in grade for the first time this preparation in the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m).

Resin returns from a freshen-up after her third successive win in a Benchmark 76 Handicap (1200m) at Warwick Farm last month.

She is joined by stablemate Demerara, who is looking to add black-type to her record after two fourths at Group Three level, including the PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) on April 7.

“She’s enjoyed being kept fresh for this race and was kept up to the mark with a nice barrier trial after the PJ Bell Stakes,” Cummings said.
