Galloway stays on winning course
Gold Coast jockey Scott Galloway was happy he made the four-hour round trip for one ride at the Sunshine Coast when promising filly Belle Roc scored an impressive win.
Sent out favourite, Belle Roc ($2.50) came from second last at the 600m to beat Sugar Sizzle ($8) by a short neck with a short half-head to A Man To Match ($6.50).
The filly’s trainer Brian Smith left for a holiday in Hawaii on Friday but was on the phone after the race to check the result.
Smith expects the filly can develop into a better than average stayer and Galloway agrees.
“She floats along but when the pace came on at the home turn is when she started to do her best work,” Galloway said.
“Belle Roc is bred to stay and think that will be her go.”
Galloway usually rides at the Gold Coast each Saturday but had been on Belle Roc at her previous three starts which included a win at the Sunshine Coast two weeks ago.
“It is about two hours back to the Gold Coast to ride one in the last but it has been worthwhile to stick with her,” Galloway said.
