Frequendly earns another year of racing

Tough mare Frequendly earned herself another year of racing with her fast-finishing win at Doomben.

Frequendly ($13) came down the outside of the rain-sodden track to beat Wonder Boom ($13) by 2-1/4 lengths with a short neck to Desert Cowboy ($8.50) in Saturday’s Beach House Bar and Grill Handicap (1050m).

Frequendly was a top early season two-year-old and was ruling favourite at one stage for the Magic Millions Classic.

The now five-year-old has never lived up to that early boom but has won six races and more than $350,000 prize money.

Trainer Les Ross said it had been planned to send Frequendly to the breeding barn at the end of the season.

“But the owners said if she won another race she could race on for another year. So that is what she will be doing,” Ross said.

Jockey Jim Byrne was quick to get back into the winners’ circle after taking a week’s break to freshen up.

Byrne picked up the ride after Bobby El Issa missed a flight to Brisbane.

“The best part of the track seems to be off the fence and we were able to get there,” Byrne said.

“I missed a couple of winners at Ipswich on Wednesday to have a break so it was good to get back into it straight away.”
