Round 11: Dockers v Magpies preview
Undermanned Collingwood face a tough road assignment against Fremantle at Optus Stadium in AFL round 11 action on Friday night.
At home, the Dockers enter as slight favourites at $1.79 with Unibet, while the Magpies offer a bit more value at $2.04 with BoomBet. The line is set at just 1.5, as AFL bookmakers expect it go down to the wire.
Last Saturday, Freo continued their finals pursuit as they beat the St Kilda by 17 points at Marvel Stadium. In a arm-wrestle, the Dockers’ inaccuracy kept the game close for three quarters, before they kicked four of the last five goals to secure a comfortable victory.
After winning three of their past four matches, Fremantle now sit just outside the top eight on percentage. With mixed expectations for the rest of their season, AFL bookies are giving odds of $1.80 for them to make the top eight.
Star ruckman Sean Darcy is set to return this week after missing the last three weeks due to a calf problem, with young key forward Patrick Voss the likely omission.
Collingwood continued their trend of winning close games last Saturday afternoon as they beat Adelaide by four points at the MCG. Despite leading by as much as 30 points in the second term, the Magpies conceded eight of the last 11 goals before star midfielder Jordan De Goey kicked the match winner with under five minutes to play.
Undefeated in their last seven matches, the Magpies have now worked their way up to fifth on the ladder, while they are at $7 with top bookmakers as the second favourite to win the AFL premiership.
Expect plenty of changes for the Magpies this week, as De Goey has been ruled out due to an abdominal strain, while forward pair Will Hoskin-Elliott (hamstring) and Reef McInnes (concussion) were also injured against the Crows. They join the likes of Jamie Elliott, Jeremy Howe and Tom Mitchell on the sidelines.
But in more positive news, the Magpies are likely to regain Brody Mihocek and Beau McCreery into the forward line. They have also confirmed that both, former cricketer Wil Parker and first round draft pick Ed Allan will make their debut.

Fremantle v Collingwood betting tips
Coming in as the in-form side, this is an opportunity for the Magpies to jump as high as second on the ladder. The Dockers hold the second-best defensive record in the AFL, but with a bottom-six attack, they have struggled to match it with top eight sides, averaging just 52 points per game. Despite playing on the road, back the Magpies to get home in another close affair, winning by less than 39 points at $2.35 online bookmakers.
Averaging 29 disposals over his past two matches, wingman Josh Daicos has been in great form for the Magpies. A problem area for the Dockers, they have struggled to limit the impact of opposition wingmen, such as Brad Hill and Errol Gulden in recent weeks. Last season against the Dockers, Daicos collected 31 disposals, so back him in for another strong performance with 25 or more disposals at $2.15 with Neds Australia.
A key part of the Dockers’ success this season, defender Luke Ryan has been in excellent form, averaging 31 disposals across his last three matches. He is the current AFL leader for both marks and kick-ins, thriving as the spare intercept player in the Fremantle backline. As a result, expect him to continue his good form, collecting 30 or more disposals at $2.85 with Bet365.
