Foxy Housewife put on black-type mission

David Vandyke will raise the bar with Foxy Housewife after her stylish first-up win at the Sunshine Coast.

Having her first start since July, Foxy Housewife ($3.50) was too strong for the $2.20 favourite Prue’s Angel scoring by a neck with rank outsider Machu Picchu ($51) 1-3/4 lengths away third.

Vandyke was concerned the 1000-metre trip might prove too short for Foxy Housewife.

“I put her in thinking they’d be a bit nippy and she’d be hitting the line but, gee, she was the nippy one,” he said.

“She was sitting there ready to go and put them to the sword. It’s very exciting going forward.”

Foxy Housewife is likely to step up to black-type company at her next start in the Listed Tattersall’s Fillies and Mares Classic (1200m) at Doomben on November 24.

“She made good progress last time in going from restricted grade to a close second in the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich,” he said.

“There are a host of similar races coming up in the next few months that we can look at with her.”

Jockey Michael Hellyer had Foxy Housewife travelling comfortably behind Prue’s Angel before gaining a rails run soon after straightening.

“She’s in for a nice prep because she’s got that nice sprint and once we get up over more ground that’s going to suit her even better,” Hellyer said.

“I had to get up her to hold a spot early but once I did that I was able to let her travel. She had the race won a long way from home.”
