Form, value odds & tips for the AFL Round 6 multi of the week

AFL multiFREMANTLE at the bottom of the ladder and North Melbourne at the top – hands up if you predicted that at the start of the season.

No one?

The incredibly-hard to predict nature of 2016 continued in round 5 after the Pies bounced back into form, the Demons crushed the Tigers and the Giants continued their build towards September.

Enough about what happened though, let’s take a look at what we think will happen in round 6. We’ve got a multi this week that is at very tasty odds for our loyal readers.

All odds this week are provided by Sportsbet.com.au, which is offering anyone looking to open a new account a matched first bet offer up to the value of $501.

Melbourne vs. St Kilda

Saturday, April 30 from 1.45pm at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne

Melbourne and St Kilda kick off our multi this weekend in a match that holds significant ramifications for both sides.

The Demons trounced the Tigers last week to notch up their first set of back-to-back wins in almost five years.

They looked like they were hungry and committed to the contest – a trait that has not been evident over the last 10 years at Demonland.

The Saints have been erratic this season.

Alan Richardson’s men have varied from strong performances against the Pies to the dismal display they put up against the Giants last weekend.

Melbourne has struggled on the Etihad Stadium deck over the last five years, while the Saints have thrived there, but this is a different Demon outfit than the one we have seen in the past.

We expect Melbourne to kick us off in style at decent odds.

Multi tip: Melbourne to win – $1.75

GWS vs. Hawthorn

Saturday, April 30 from 4.35pm at Spotless Stadium, Sydney

The Giants host the Hawks in the second leg of our multi at Spotless Stadium in Sydney, and we are picking the home team to cause an upset at odds.

The Giants have been terrific this season after their first round slip up against the Demons, and their crushing victory over the Saints last week highlighted just how devastating they can be.

The Hawks – well, they just keep finding ways to win.

Hawthorn’s last three matches have been decided by a margin of just three points.

The Giants have troubled the Hawks in the past, winning their last match up at Spotless in 2015, and we are predicting the same outcome to add some serious value to our parlay.

Multi tip: GWS to win – $2.05

Richmond vs. Port Adelaide

Saturday, April 30 from 7.45pm at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne

Right, which one of you two teams wants to win this?

Two of this year’s top-four aspirants Richmond and Port Adelaide have just three wins between them heading into round 6, a sad realisation of just how far these two teams’ fortunes have fallen.

The Tigers were horrendous last week against Melbourne, and their woes were compounded further by the two game suspension of All-Australian full back Alex Rance.

In more positive news for the home side will welcome back superstar midfielder Brett Deledio for his first game this season.

Port Adelaide’s playing stocks do not look that much better.

The Power will be without two of their very best players after All-Australian duo Chad Wingard and Robbie Gray were ruled out after sustaining hamstring injuries.

It is do-or-die for the Tigers – and looking at the available players that each team has at their disposal we are selecting Richmond; whose midfield class of Cotchin, Deledio and Martin should prove too much for the depleted Power.

Richmond to win – $1.38

Carlton vs. Essendon

Sunday, May 1 from 3.20pm at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne

A battle between traditional rivals Carlton and Essendon rounds out our high-priced multi this weekend.

Rather than go for a head-to-head result, we believe a line bet is the way to go in this one.

The Dons were dreadful last week in their ANZAC Day match against Collingwood.

At no point in the match did they look like they had the capacity to win after the Magpies piled on the scoreboard pressure in the opening quarter.

The Blues notched up their first win, defeating Fremantle in Perth by four points.

Liam Jones was the unlikely hero for the Carlton side, nailing two last quarter goals to ensure his side left Perth as the victors.

The question is: will the travel and the emotion of an unlikely victory get the better of Carlton?

We are not certain the Blues have what it takes to win back-to-back games yet, and a line of 18.5 points is incredibly generous for a team that has failed to score over 50 points on two separate occasions in the opening five rounds.

We are backing the Bombers to cover the line.

Multi tip: Essendon line bet +18.5 – $1.92
