Feature double for Kerrin McEvoy at Wyong

Kerrin McEvoy has ridden the winners of the two feature races at Wyong with Savatiano taking the Mona Lisa Stakes and Carzoff the Gold Cup.

It was a first win in the Cup (2100m) for McEvoy and a sixth for Carzoff’s trainer Chris Waller on Friday.

Carzoff ($6) benefited from McEvoy’s experience when he had to steer him between horses in the straight.

When he got clear air, Carzoff overhauled Dark Eyes ($9) to win by a length with Taree Cup winner Shalmaneser ($21) another half length third.

“There was a bit of jockeying going on early and he got back,” McEvoy said.

“Once he got out he enjoyed himself.

“Today’s race looked a competitive one for him and he deserves a win.”

Godolphin mare Saviatano started the $2.60 favourite in the Listed Mona Lisa (1350m) and lived up to the quote with a half length win over the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Shumookh ($5.50).

Irithea ($4.20) from the Bjorn Baker stable was another three-quarters of a length third.
