Falcons v Eagles NFL W2 preview
The Philadelphia Eagles will be looking to build on their hot start to the 2024 NFL season this Tuesday (AEST) as they welcome the Atlanta Falcons to Lincoln Financial Field.
It was a tough start to life in Atlanta for quarterback Kirk Cousins last Sunday as the Falcons lost by eight points to the Steelers. Despite not conceding a touchdown on defense, Cousins could not get the offense going despite a plethora of exciting skill-position players.
In arguably one of the weakest divisions in the NFL, hopes were high for Atlanta coming into the season. But until Cousins and new coach Raheem Morris can get their gameplan settled, the struggles will continue. At +240 with BetOnline, they are clear underdogs for this clash.
Starting linebacker Nate Landman is listed as questionable after missing training on Wednesday, but otherwise the Falcons will be at full strength.
It was a strong start to the season for Philly, who beat the Packers by five points in Brazil last Friday. In a back-and-forth game, it was off-season recruit Saquon Barkley who led the way, scoring three touchdowns and accumulating 132 total yards.
It wasn’t all positive for the Eagles, as they had three turnovers for the day, but their defense stood up late to keep the Packers to just three points in the last 27 minutes of the game.
After making the playoffs in 2023, expectations are high for Philadelphia once again this season. They went all-in at the trade table in the off-season, and it is no surprise to see the Eagles as -303.03 favourites for their first home game of the campaign.
Philly fefensive pair Devin White and Isaiah Rodgers are questionable on the injury report, but both are expected to return in backup roles.
Falcons v Eagles betting strategy
Last season, a key problem for the Falcons was their inability to stop the run. It could be a long night if they can’t get through one of the top offensive lines in the NFL. In Philadelphia, the Eagles should be too strong, covering the spread of -6.5 points at -111.11 with leading online bookmakers.
After a disappointing Week 1 on offense for the Falcons, expect a much-improved performance from Cousins as he builds a relationship with his receivers. The Eagles allowed 29 points last week, but their star-studded offense means they can match it with anyone in a shootout. At -111.11 with top sports betting sites, back this match to go over 47 total match points.
While Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley received plenty of praise for their performances in the win, wide receiver AJ Brown was also excellent with 119 yards and a touchdown. After a lean finish to last season, the former Titan looked back to his best and made the most of limited opportunities. At +120 with top sports bookies, Brown offers great value to find the endzone once again.
