F1 Italian GP Market Movers: Team McLaren heavy favourites to win
The Italian Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix (GP) main race is scheduled for Sunday, September 1, 2024, with the race set to start at 2:00PM GMT, and after a typically sensational F1 (Qualification) and practice sessions, the grid positions are locked in.
After Mclaren dominated Zandvoort, lets have a look at the events that led us to race day and what might mean in terms of F1 betting opportunities ahead of Sunday.
The Italian GP is held in Monza, Italy, and is the hometown race for fan favourite Ferrari. A team that has always excelled here at their home race is seen again showing progression from their recent slump prior to the summer break.
Monza is well known for its extremely high-speed corners, where drivers are seen on the throttle 73% of the lap. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile or FIA, are the rule officials of F1 and have extended drag reduction zone 1 (DRS) by 100m to encourage more overtaking through the laps of the race to ensure a more exciting race.

Italian GP Betting After Qualifying Session
The closest qualifying this year with eight drivers capable of pole has concluded. Lets take a look at what this may entail for betting.
Lando Norris has gone back-to-back with the Pirelli Pole Position award with a time of 1:19.327, followed by teammate Oscar Piastri with only a 0.109s gap. This is one of the longest straights into turn 1, where we could possibly see another McLaren battle at the front for the lead.
The leading F1 bookmakers have shifted Norris from a +100 favourite into a -227.27 chance, while Australian teammate Oscar Piastri shifts from +700 into +500 with Neds Bookmaker.
We could see Norris bottle another pole here in Monza with George Russell starting in P3. In Zandvoort, we saw both McLarens suffer from wheel spin in their start. Russell overtaking both McLarens before the first corner and claiming the lead offers some great value, with PlayUp offering +800 for Russell to win.
Charles Leclerc was able to secure a second row start here in Monza beginning from 4th. The Ferrari car definitely had some more pace to show and was very close to a pole. With the extra pace, if the Ferrari is capable of low tire degradation, we could see Leclerc emerge and try a 1-stop strategy and keep the tires in the right window to claim his second win for the season, with odds improving from +1000 out to +1400 with Bet365.
